A feature of the Dianella Apartments is the large central courtyard pool, residents’ lounge, outdoor barbecue and games area. During the specification process Hassen explored options for timber lining the verandah ceilings to create the resort-style aesthetic.
Hassen selected Bondor’s SolarSpan® all in one insulated panel, consisting of the roof, insulation and ceiling in a single panel, instead of a traditional wood installation and with the underside of the panel using Ashwood by Selection Steel for its woodgrain style finish. This solution significantly reduced installation costs as a secondary carpentry trade and extra costly timber planks would not be required.
Maintenance costs over the life of the complex would also be significantly reduced, as the pre-finished Ashwood ceiling underside consists of Unicote Lux by Selection Steel, providing a low maintenance, unobtrusive and aesthetically pleasing smooth ceiling-like finish.
Bondor also provided 4,500 sqm of SolarSpan® Insulated Roofing Panel across the three apartment buildings, finished in Basalt COLORBOND® BlueScope Steel. SolarSpan® was perfect for roofing the Dianella Apartments due to its long-spans, which are faster to install than conventional roofing, eliminating the need for additional structural supports and extra layers required in traditional roofing.
SolarSpan®’s high thermal efficiency also satisfies Section J requirement of the National Construction Code (NCC), allowing Dianella Apartments to achieve an average 6 Star NatHERS energy rating, as well as providing an extensive solar panel system to heat the 20m pool.
