Warragul, Victoria

The Challenges

Warragul in Victoria’s Gippsland region east of Melbourne is known for its short, warm summers and harsh, cold winters.

This was a key consideration for Leigh Allchin from Allchin Builders when he was considering building products for the design of a large four bedroom, two bath family home located on a high sloping block providing views over the town and surrounding valley.

He was looking for a product that could offer up to a 7 star energy rating to not only meet the new National Construction Code (NCC) energy efficiency requirements, but also deliver superior climate control and comfort to the completed home.

Another significant challenge was the steep fall across the home site, which meant access during the build would be difficult. A lightweight product that could easily be transported and lifted into place was required.

With the positioning of the property, more planning was required to meet the needs of the home design, achieve energy efficiency ratings and ease of construction.

Having used Bondor’s all in one thermal panels on previous builds, Leigh knew Bondor’s LuxeWall® in COLORBOND®’s Shale Grey® would tick all the boxes for this home’s external wall cladding.

The Solution

“The site slope and height of the first floor provided the biggest challenge, but Bondor helped address these,” Leigh said.

“Given the home is quite elevated on the site, we thought it would look a lot better and create a visual contrast between the brick façade of the lower level and the LuxeWall® panels on the upper level.

“Another big bonus from using LuxeWall® at elevated sites such as this, is that we only have to set up scaffolding for the one trade.

“The panels lift and fit into place and can be installed by our carpenters, so once that’s done it’s finished,’ he said.

Not only does the end result look great, but the interlocking wall modules also reduce energy usage for heating and cooling due to its superior thermal performance and air-leakage control.

“LuxeWall® is a great solution for that because it not only offers the insulation inside the product, it’s also good for moisture as well and is fantastic against condensation,” Leigh said.

LuxeWall® is Codemark Certified and conforms to NCC requirements and Australian Standards, it is also available with a mineral wool core which can achieve BAL40, BALFZ and be used as a Boundary Wall Option.
