Smarter Building Solutions with NCC

NCC 2022 has major changes relating to the energy efficiency of buildings. These changes will have a significant impact on how we build and are important in contributing to how we reduce our carbon footprint.

Architects, builders, engineers and designers can benefit from utilising Insulated Sandwich Panels (ISP) to meet the updated NCC 2022 requirements. These panels offer several advantages including exemptions from thermal bridging, roofing condensation and ventilation requirements.

ISP roofs now have dedicated R-value tables in the Deemed to Satisfy elemental provisions of Volumes One and Two. Depending on the climate zone and other conditions this often results in a reduction in the required thickness of panel roofing, and therefore the cost to comply with NCC 2022.

NCC 2022 Energy Efficiency and Condensation provisions for residential dwellings of class 1, 2, and 4 parts of a building have undergone significant changes. These changes aim to bring them closer to achieving net zero energy goals while trying to mitigate condensation issues, and address thermal bridging to some extent.

This also helps align the two DtS pathways, namely the elemental and the NatHERS pathway to ensure a consistent building outcome regardless of the chosen pathway.

The NCC 2022 updates aim to go beyond reducing the environmental impacts of residential housing. They focus on improved occupant comfort, reduced energy wastage and improved resilience against extreme weather events. Insulated Sandwich Panels (ISPs) are a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable solution that meet and exceed the new thermal performance requirements of NCC. ISPs provide comfortable living conditions and are suitable for Australia’s diverse and extreme weather conditions.

The introduction of A2.2(4) into NCC 2019 identifies the process and documentation required for proposed Performance Solutions to meet Performance Requirements. The process demonstrates clear expectations, better information to end users and a greater auditing ability through improved record-keeping and documentation.

However, this stringency could be challenging given the increased level of documentation. One ready-made solution is CodeMarkTM. CodeMarkTM simplifies the Performance Solution process, as the Conformity Body that issued the certificate has undertaken analysis to demonstrate products meet nominated Performance Requirements.

Find out how this impacts your performance solution pathway and how CodeMarkTM approved insulated panels can help in both residential and commercial applications. Register your details to access our NCC whitepapers and informative flyers to ensure you are NCC ready.
