Integrating MetSeam Aluminium Fins with Insulated Panels for Enhanced Facade Performance

MetSeam is a new decorative aluminium fin system to help architects and designers achieve the sought-after standing seam look on building facades.

Inspired by direct feedback from the construction sector, MetSeam offers a flexible, modern solution that brings rhythm, depth, and a clean finish to a wide range of commercial, industrial, residential and retail projects. Its easy installation and compatibility with Bondor Metecno’s insulated panels make it a practical choice for both new builds and renovations.

In this blog, Rohan Madathanapalli, Business Development Manager and Technical Consultant for Bondor Metecno Group, explores how MetSeam was created in response to industry demand, the design and installation benefits it offers, and why it stands out as a versatile tool for creative facade design.

What is MetSeam?

MetSeam is a decorative aluminium fin system developed by Bondor Metecno to attach to insulated wall panels and create the appearance of standing seam cladding. It enhances building facades with clean, vertical lines and a contemporary finish, while maintaining the performance and integrity of the underlying panel system.

MetSeam is a decorative accessory, meaning it is not a structural or insulated panel on its own. Instead, it is an aluminium fin system that attaches to the external steel skin of Bondor Metecno’s insulated wall panels. Its main purpose is to provide a modern, standing seam look to building facades, adding visual interest and architectural detail.

Because MetSeam is designed specifically as a decorative attachment, it does not contribute to the thermal, fire, or structural performance of the wall system—those qualities are provided by the underlying Bondor Metecno insulated panels.

MetSeam is compatible with a range of our Architectural Wall Cladding and Facade panels, such as the Equitilt, MetecnoInspire, and LuxeWall by Bondor systems, allowing architects and designers to achieve a consistent aesthetic across different project types while relying on the proven performance of the panel system beneath.

This approach gives designers flexibility in appearance without compromising the building envelope’s integrity or compliance.

Why did Bondor Metecno create MetSeam?

MetSeam was created in direct response to feedback from architects and building owners who wanted the popular standing seam look on high-performance insulated facades.

Traditional methods for achieving this style were often complicated,  or involved performance trade-offs.

Bondor Metecno also saw issues with some other systems in the market, such as decorative ribs coming loose or having weak connections.

To address these challenges, we developed MetSeam as a simple, robust accessory that delivers the desired aesthetic while working seamlessly with our existing insulated panel systems. MetSeam makes it easier for designers to achieve the look they want without compromising performance.

Design and Aesthetic Appeal

MetSeam is designed to bring a refined, modern touch to building facades through its elegant vertical fins. When installed, these aluminium fins catch the light and cast shifting shadows throughout the day, adding depth and movement to the exterior. The system features hidden fixings, so the lines remain uninterrupted and crisp, resulting in a clean, contemporary look.

Architects have the flexibility to play with the spacing of the fins—tight, evenly spaced fins can create a more restrained and formal feel, while wider or varied groupings offer a bold, expressive look.

Just like composing music, MetSeam is the instrument architects can use to shape their design where the facade becomes a rhythm or pattern.

This approach allows for a cost-effective way to achieve the sought-after standing seam style, without the complexity of traditional cladding systems.

Sustainability and Efficiency

MetSeam is designed to enhance a building’s appearance without compromising its sustainability or efficiency. As a decorative accessory, it doesn’t impact the thermal insulation or energy performance of the wall system—those qualities remain with the proven Bondor Metecno insulated panels behind it.

MetSeam is designed to be used with Bondor Metecno’s insulated panels, which carry CodeMark certification and are supported by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This means that while MetSeam provides an aesthetic upgrade, the proven performance, compliance, and sustainability credentials come from the certified Bondor Metecno panels they are attached to.

With MetSeam, architects can achieve the look they want while maintaining the building’s performance and environmental credentials.

Construction and Installation Benefits

MetSeam is engineered for straightforward and efficient installation, making it a practical choice for both builders and designers.

The system features an aluminium base extrusion with pre-punched slots every 300 millimetres, which simplifies alignment and helps manage thermal expansion. Installers can choose between fixing the fin along the panel’s external skin or attaching it back to the structure at support points—both methods are clearly outlined in the design and installation guide.

Once the base is secured, a snap-on cover plate conceals the fasteners, ensuring a seamless, clean finish. Built-in safeguards, such as limiting the number of fasteners per support, help maintain the integrity of the panels.

MetSeam eliminates on-site guesswork, speeds up installation, and delivers a professional result across a wide range of building types.

Where MetSeam Shines

MetSeam truly shines in its versatility and ability to elevate a wide range of building projects. Whether it’s adding a refined architectural touch to high-end homes or bringing a contemporary edge to commercial, educational, or retail spaces, MetSeam delivers a sleek, modern look that stands out.

MetSeam is compatible with a variety of Bondor Metecno insulated panels, making it easy to integrate into projects of different scales.

The system is especially effective in non-cyclonic regions and is ideal for designers seeking the striking standing seam aesthetic without the complexity of traditional cladding.

Additionally, MetSeam offers the benefit of concealed fixings, providing a clean, uninterrupted facade and solving a common challenge in facade design.

Installation Guidance

MetSeam was created to be simple, efficient and forgiving on site. Installing MetSeam is quite straightforward, but like any other architectural feature, it pays to follow the guide closely.

The Metseam fixing system is designed for straightforward installation and a clean finish. It uses an aluminium base extrusion that comes pre-punched with slots every 300 millimetres, which helps manage thermal expansion and makes layout easier.

There are two main fixing methods depending on the selected wall panel.  With LuxeWall by Bondor and MetecnoInspire, the fin can be attached directly to the outer skin of the insulated panel along its length.  With Equitilt FlameGuard, Equitilt EPS-FR, BondorPanel and MetecnoPanel it can be fixed back to the building structure at designated support points.

Once the base extrusion is secured using the pre-punched slots (and, if needed, oversized holes to allow for movement), a snap-on cover plate is clipped over the base to conceal all fasteners, resulting in a seamless appearance. The system includes safeguards such as a limit of no more than four fasteners per panel at each support to maintain panel integrity. End caps are added where required to complete the installation and finish the detail.

It’s worth noting that the system is designed for non-cyclonic regions, so it’s best to confirm suitability early in design. The full design and install guide gives installers everything they need.
